Maritime Paintings

Art capturing the rugged character, deep history, and enduring spirit of traditional boat life.

 Dredge McFarland

Active Service: 1967-2026

An illustrative painting project honoring the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Dredge McFarland for a well-earned retirement after almost six decades of service. Commissioned in 1967, the McFarland is a deep-draft ocean-going hopper dredge that has operated like a lifeline for maritime commerce. This painting honors and celebrates the history of American workboats and the dedication of her civilian crew, who worked day and night keeping vital channels and waterways open and safe.

 Kalmar Nyckel

Beyond studio work, I'm honored to serve as a volunteer crew member aboard the Kalmar Nyckel. A faithful, full-scale re-creation of the 17th-century Dutch-built armed merchant ship that brought the first Swedish settlers to North America in 1638, founding New Sweden. Sailing her requires a lot of teamwork and respecting timeless maritime traditions.
